If you live between MoPac and 183, the interesting food news has quietly stopped happening downtown. The openings worth planning a Thursday around are landing on Shoal Creek, along Anderson Lane, near Lakeline, and inside Domain Northside. That is a shift from the last few years, when a resident of North or Northwest Austin usually had to drive south of the river to try anything new.
Below is a working map of what has opened, what is coming, and where the concentration is heaviest. Every place named here is within a reasonable weeknight drive of Northwest Hills, Allandale, Anderson Mill, or the Domain corridor.
The Shoal Creek and Anderson corridor is doing the heavy lifting
The single most talked-about opening on this side of town is Roya, an upscale casual Persian restaurant at 7858 Shoal Creek Blvd., perched above the North location of District near Anderson Lane. Chef Amir Hajimaleki ran it as a pop-up for years before landing the permanent space. Reservations went live around the February 11 opening, marking the evolution of a project that began as intimate pop-ups across the city back in 2018.
What is on the menu matters more than the backstory if you are choosing where to spend Saturday. The opening lineup highlights dishes like Wild Mushroom Borani layered with garlic labneh and black garlic chili oil, Mahiche Gheymeh featuring saffron tomato braised lamb shank, and a Wagyu Chenjeh Kabob finished with fenugreek seasoning and tarragon chimichurri. The room itself is not a typical strip-center build-out. Designed by Amir and his brother Ali, the space blends modern design with Persian artistry through intricate tile work, rich textiles, deep blue tones, and curated pieces from Azerbaijani artist Alexei Antonov alongside local Austin artist Ed Booth.
Chef Hajimaleki has been direct about why the concept exists. "I started the journey of creating Roya to find a connection with my Iranian roots. I came here at a very young age, and not being able to go back to Iran left a huge void that I have been able to fill through cooking. I've been able to learn more about Iran's beautiful history and culture through Roya, and the best part is I get to share what Persian culture is to our Austin community."
For hours, Roya runs Monday through Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. Reviewers have not been shy. The dip made from grilled eggplant, kashk, chickpeas, and black tahini is considered one of the best dips in Austin.
The Shoal Creek and Anderson intersection has been slowly building into a legitimate dining node. Roya sits within a few blocks of Eldorado Cafe, Jack Allen's Kitchen, and the Persian speakeasy Daisy Lounge, which opened in 2024. That density is new for this part of town, and it changes the calculus for residents who used to drive south for a real dinner out.
Far Northwest finally has a Korean street-food anchor
Anderson Mill and Lakeline residents have watched most of the neighborhood food news land 20 minutes away. That changed in February. Hanshin Pocha, known for its menu stacked with Korean comfort food, opened a new location near Lakeline Mall. The menu features items such as fried dumplings, Korean pancakes, kimchi fried rice, stir-fried udon with brisket and more. It opened Feb. 5 at 11301 Lakeline Blvd.
If you already live off 620 or Parmer, this is the shortest drive on the list.

Two closures are worth acknowledging because they leave gaps residents will feel. Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet closed its Northwest Austin location the last week of March due to an expired lease and dated building, though the Round Rock and south Austin spots remain open. And Yard Bar, the North Austin dog park and bar, announced on Instagram it would close May 30 after opening for brews and barks on 20,000 square feet of land over a decade ago. Domain Northside is picking up its pace
The Domain has always been about retail with restaurants attached. That balance is shifting. Roman-style pizza is next in line: Baldinucci Pizza Romana is set to bring its Roman-style pizza to Domain NORTHSIDE, with a space built for both casual meals and grab-and-go slices.
Farther south of Domain but still inside the corridor a lot of North Austin residents already drive for errands, a Mediterranean concept opened earlier this year at 3120 Palm Way, Suite 170, Domain Northside, with a January 2026 opening and vegetable-forward plates, mezze-style offerings, wine, and craft cocktails in a polished yet approachable setting.
If you want a sense of scale for why so much lands here, Domain is a mixed-use retail district with approximately 1.8 million square feet of retail space across multiple development phases, and it functions as a primary retail and dining destination for the city's tech-driven consumer base, supported by surrounding office towers, thousands of residential units, and a hotel cluster generating consistent daily foot traffic across all hours. That daily foot traffic is why Domain leases keep filling with concepts that would have opened downtown five years ago.

One more North Austin opening worth the drive
If you like Vietnamese and are willing to head slightly farther north:
Cui is a new Vietnamese restaurant that recently opened in North Austin. The space is really small, but the food is very good. They incorporate Texas barbecue flavors into classic Vietnamese dishes, giving them their own unique identity. The thing recommended most is their Pho Cowboy. It uses smoked Texas style meats like brisket.
That is the kind of hybrid concept that only makes sense in Austin, and it is the sort of thing that used to require a trip to East 7th. Now it is a normal Tuesday dinner if you live near Parmer.
Why the map matters if you're thinking about the neighborhood long-term
Residents rarely think about restaurant openings as a housing signal, but the pattern is worth naming. Five years ago, the food-news gravity of Austin ran from South Congress to East Cesar Chavez. In 2026, a chef with a serious concept and a Michelin-adjacent resume is choosing an address on Shoal Creek. Korean and Vietnamese operators are choosing Lakeline and Parmer. That decision is downstream of who lives here now and how much they spend on dinner.
For a homeowner in Northwest Hills, Allandale, Anderson Mill, or the newer builds around the Domain, the practical upside is simple. The weeknight radius shrinks. You stop driving 25 minutes for a real meal, because it opened five minutes from your kitchen.
If you have friends coming in this month, the short list writes itself. Roya for the sit-down dinner. Hanshin Pocha for a casual weeknight. Cui if they want the Austin-only hybrid. Baldinucci at Domain Northside when it opens for a slice run after shopping. That is a real weekend, built entirely on the north side of the river.
